Venue insurance covers the venue, including its building, staff, and operations. It does not extend to outside organizations using that space for an event, and most venue contracts will say so explicitly. That means an injury that happens during your charity auction, golf scramble, or race finish line celebration is almost certainly your organization’s liability to manage.
Most standard nonprofit policies are written around an organization’s day-to-day operations, not one-off events, and even when events are included, the limits may not be sufficient for a large gathering. Some Arkansas venues and municipalities now require proof of event insurance for nonprofits and other organizers as a condition of permit approval, along with additional insured endorsements and proof of bonding.
A personal umbrella policy can extend certain individual liability limits, but it is not a substitute for dedicated special event insurance when an organized event is involved.
