An Alternative to Straight Term Life Insurance.
Return of Premium Term Life Insurance is attracting attention from many
sectors of people. Remember how we contrasted term life insurance with cash value
life insurance by equating them with renting or buying a home. ROP Term Life policies offer an alternative that would be like
your landlord giving back all your rent money when you move out.
You should expect to pay a premium that costs 25% to 50% more than
regular term life insurance. That extra premium is invested by the insurance company in order for them to earn enough money to
give you your money back and still make a profit.
That extra cost may not be in your best interest. You certainly would
not want to purchase less insurance than you need because of the higher premium.
ROP Term Life policies do not offer anything additional to your beneficiaries
if you die. The return of premium occurs only if you live to the end of the policy term.
So, what's the benefit?
The premium money you receive at the end of the term is non-taxable.
It's sort of like putting a part of your paycheck into a cookie jar for a period of time. At the end of the period you take the
money out of the jar. You paid payroll taxes on the money before you put it in the jar. It did not earn any interest. You simply
take out what you put in.
But, your life was insured the whole time you were paying into
the ROP jar.
Sliding Scale.
Most ROP Term Life Insurance policies provide a return of premium on
a sliding scale if you decide not to wait till the end of the term. Usually, during the first five years you own the policy you would
get nothing back if you surrender it.
Let our trained staff help you with this important decision. Which
is best for you: term life, ROP term life, whole life, universal life?.
