Reporting a Homeowner Insurance Claim

McGhee Insurance Agency is the first link between you and your insurance company. We know you may not have immediate access to the phone numbers you need in order to report a claim. Call us. We have all your information on file.

What You Should Do in the Event of Loss

Locate all family members and determine if anyone is injured. Call 911 if necessary.
Survey your home to identify potential hazards such as broken glass, downed power lines and broken gas lines.
When the area is safe, survey all the damage and take photographs.
Try to not leave your property unattended.
Take steps to protect the property from further loss such as covering broken windows or a hole in your roof. If necessary, begin moving your personal property to a safe location, but do not throw any items away.
Keep a log of times, dates and receipts of materials you purchase for repair.
When an insurance adjustor comes to your home, ask for identification. Remember, you should never pay an adjustor for anything. The adjustor is representing your insurance company and is being paid by the company.

Taking Photographs

Assuming the area is safe, you should take photographs of your insured property BEFORE moving or repairing anything. Remember, you should have a disposable camera in your emergency kit. If you prepared as suggested in our Helpful Tips Section, you should already have a set of digital photos in a secure location that shows your property prior to the damage.

You do not need a digital camera in order to get digital photos. Many film processing enterprises can furnish you a set of digital photos when they process your film.

There are businesses that will photograph your property for you. Yes, you will have to pay for the service.
